Jonathon Myhre

Jonathon Myhre

Known to most as Mr. Dragonbane, Jonathon is the founder of Midgar Press and the creative engine behind most of what we publish. A professional TTRPG gamemaster and President of Nerd Louisville, he specializes in third-party content for Dragonbane, Shadowdark, DarkSpace, and Candela Obscura. Co-owner and Chief Gamemaster of Lurking Fears. His Kickstarter projects speak for themselves.

Midgar Press is a small TTRPG publishing house out of Louisville, KY. We make adventures, supplements, and scenarios for the systems people love: Dragonbane, Shadowdark, DarkSpace, Death in Space, and Candela Obscura.

We're a small crew of writers, designers, and storytellers who believe good game products should feel like they were made by people who actually play these games. Because we do.

Our AI policy

We use AI at Midgar Press. We want to be upfront about how, and how not.

The short version: AI is an administrative tool here. We don't use it to write our stories or make our art.

Human at the helm

There's a principle we work by called "human at the helm." The idea is pretty simple: AI is good at compressing tedious work. A 4-hour task becomes a 20-minute one. That's real, and we lean into it.

The creative work is different. The story, the voice, the moment where a GM reads a room description and actually feels something: that's not something we're willing to hand off. It never will be here.

What we use AI for

Administrative and organizational tasks only:

  • Scheduling, organizing feedback, drafting internal emails and announcements
  • Internal documentation and process notes
  • Research organization and summarization (fact-checked by a human after)
  • Layout checklists, proofreading passes, and accessibility checks

What we never use AI for

  • Adventure writing, story structure, or flavor copy
  • NPC voices, dialogue, or lore
  • Artwork, illustrations, maps, or any visual element in our products
  • Design decisions about what a product should be or feel like

Every piece of art in a Midgar Press product was made by a human artist.

Why it matters to us

The TTRPG community runs on creative labor. Artists, writers, cartographers, designers: these folks put real work into this, and we want every dollar you spend on our products to point back at that.

If you have questions about how something was made, just ask. We're happy to talk shop.
